I smelled sewer near Dartmouth yesterday. The wind was blowing from Beech area because I thought the smell was our neighbors dog on Weide.

Thanks for the info. I thought it was something in my yard originally because it was so strong, but enough neighbors have told me that this is something they are smelling 2-4 blocks away from Beech St that I think this is a larger problem that the town needs to investigate with a combustible gas analyzer and publish the results. I believe we have a either a sewage leak or a hydrogen sulfide leak somewhere in the area that the wind is blowing in. It is not connected to freight trains because the smell is present with and without trains, and it started about 5 days ago and has gotten worse.

I'm calling national grid tonight because the smell is getting worse and the neighbors want to rule out a natural gas leak

CFD came out tonight and took flammable gas readings in several yards where the odor was present. No measurable readings found, but CFD captain agreed it is very likely sewage related and that we should continue follow up with Sewer Department to find root cause.

The sewer department opened all the sewer manholes and checked for blockages and flow. They did not find anything at all. They have reported their findings to the Fire Department.

Sewage smell seems to be largely abated as of Wednesday morning. Some remnants remain. Will see how the weekend goes. Was something fixed at the pump station on Princeton Wednesday morning? Saw some trucks out there, and that correlates with when the smells started to lessen.

Town Sewer employees are addressing this issue directly with one of the homeowners. It appears that this odor may be generated from a sink hole on private property where there used to be a septic tank.
